Spools & Churn Dash

I can't believe it, in just about a week, I got all caught up through Week 5 of the Farm Girl Vintage Quilt Along.  I'm having a ball!

036

I changed up the spool block a bit for my quilt!  I made this one first

039

I thought it turned out cute, but felt it was a little too plain!   So I kicked it up a notch and made this one

043

I adore this Spool Block!  I have a secret love affair with spools, too - both old and new!  And, I love to decorate with them, too!

Of course, the Churn Dash is an old favorite of mine

038

and I took this chance to use some of my all-time favorite "cooking" themed fabric

045

The adorable center square is a "Recipe Print" by Lakehouse and these adorable mixing bowl and spatula prints

046

are by the ever-creative genius Lori Holt, of Bee In My Bonnet, author of the Farm Girl Vintage Book and hostess with the moistest for this super fun quilt along!

TTFN,

Kelly

Canning Season & Chicken Foot

I'm so glad I joined in the Farm Girl Vintage fun - this quilt is going to be A-DOR-ABLE!

023

The Canning Season Block may be my favorite in the entire quilt!  It might be because I have a secret love affair with Mason Jars,

024

both old and new!  I not only can my garden veggies with them, I use them to store all kinds of things, and to decorate.

028

I got rid of all of my plastic containers and use them to store left-overs in the fridge.  I also use them to store food in my cabinets - no mess of odd sized boxes and bags ;).

031

I even use a little mini mason jar to catch all those "niblets" from the triangles in quilting!

026

Yup - I do so love my Mason Jars - and this cutie of a block!

032

Love this fun little Chicken Foot Block, too!

TTFN,

Kelly

Baking Day & Butter Churn

Omg - I'm having such fun stitching the Farm Girl Vintage Blocks!

014

On some of them - well you can't make just one!  If I could have a  set of these mixing bowls, I'm not sure if I'd pick the red polka dot

019

or the pink plaid

021

I think I'd just take both!

And, I have to say - this block really does remind me of churning butter

016

with those old-fashioned butter churns.

TTFN,

Kelly

Spring Star and Baby Chicks

I've been working on my Farm Girl Vintage Blocks.

012

I decided to make my blocks 9", thinking the adjustments would be easy.  On most of them it's gone smoothly, but on the Baby Chick block - not so much!  So, I decided to create my own block

010

and ended up with TWO baby chicks.  I also decided to applique the little hearts rather than piecing them.

011

I'm waiting patiently (sort of ) for the Modern Minis Fabric to be released to use the brown and orange for an Autumn Star like Lori's, but thought I'd make a Spring Star in the interim

009

with some tasty spring berries in the center!

TTFN,

Kelly

Farm Girl Vintage

I'm joining the Farm Girl Vintage fun.

001

The quilt is just so adorable, I couldn't resist!

  012

Instead of doing the "Apron Strings" block in the book, I decided to do this apron block instead (pattern by Charise Creates).

They turned out so cute

004

I decided to replace the four corner "Simple Star" blocks with these little aprons instead.

005

Here are the fabrics for the other two I'm going to make

009

I love that Lori tells us we are the boss of our own quilt, and the freedom to change things up a bit and make it mine!

Back soon with more Farm Girl Vintage fun!

TTFN,

Kelly

Pretty & Practical

I've been sewing some reusable grocery bags!

041

We are totally documentary junkies.  And, I-tunes had an Earth Day sale we couldn't pass up.

042

One of our favorite docs was "Trashed", a film about our over-flowing landfills on earth, and the problem with all of the plastic that doesn't break down.  What shocked me in many of the photos was all of the plastic bags in the landfills, floating in the water (yup those same plastic bags I bring home by the dozens from the grocery store)!

045

So I got busy stitching up these to use instead!

044

Adding a little pretty, handmade, pink goodness

043

to my grocery shopping - and saving the Earth one grocery shopping trip at a time.

TTFN,

Kelly

The Best Smile

063

in the whole wide world

057

belongs to my grandson

  069
who I've affectionately nicknamed "Taters"!

084

I don't think there is anything better in life than being this little guy's Nona!

TTFN,
Kelly
